Rackham Paul Captain  a CF-104 pilot with 439, was killed on the 09 May 1973, while on an exchange mission in Norway when his 104 crashed on a final approach (landing pattern) at Bodo, Norway

Rankin L.C.  Squadron Leader and  CO 123 Sqn. Former affiliation was with the newly revived School of Army Co-operation (22 Oct 1941) which was the  fore-runner of 123 and later 439 Sqn  as a flight lieutenant, and had remained with it until September 1942; he left then for some weeks to take a staff course at Kingston, Ontario, at the end of which he was struck off strength to Eastern Air Command Headquarters.  Nine days later he was posted back to No. 123 as C.O., and remained in command until the unit went overseas. He was then posted to R.M.C. (Royal Military College) as Air Staff Officer

Rassenti N.H., Nick, F/O, J22462, Pilot, 23 May 1944 -  20 Nov 1944. An original from 123 Sqn. Posted out to Redhill 7.  Tour Expired Apr 1944. Posted out 27 Nov 1944 as an instructor at Aston Down.

Raymond FR Francis Robert "Frank" F/O 32292 F-86 Sabre Pilot Circa 1953 - 25 Sep 1953 posted to the new Ferry Flight to be formed in Canada. In 1957 he joined Canadian Pacific Airlines where he stayed until his retirement in 1990. Passed away unexpectedly at his residence, Waterloo, Ontario on Tuesday, September 2, 2005, at the age of 72 years. Ross  Jake, F/O, Pilot, an original from 123 Squadron days. Citizen of the USA, he was shot- down 15 June 1944......."As the Squadron was pulling out of the target area, heavy flak from Caen ????? destroyed the aircraft flown by F/O Jake Ross, the tail section of his machine was shot-up, the engine caught fire and crashed, but Jake bailed out and it is presumed that he landed safely in the front line just 1 mile north of Caen. His parachute opened nicely." Unfortunately he was captured and spent the duration as a POW.

Ross K.D., Ken, F/L, J13016 / J15316, Pilot, 06 May 1945 -  22 July 1945. Posted into 439 from 83 GSU for a second operational tour on the 8th of May,1945. He did not fly on operations with this Squadron (439) but had flown on operations on his first tour, completing 45:00 operational hours and has a grand total of 695:40 flying hours. Posted to 421 Squadron 22 July 1945

Ross  V.W.S , Squadron Leader  CO of the School of Army Co-operation which was reopened at Rockcliffe, Ontario on the 22 October 1941. On 15 Jan 1942 the School was re-designated 123 Squadron (the forerunner of 439) .
