Ottawa, November 28, 2006 – Even with employment, Canadians are struggling to stay above the poverty line and are increasingly turning to food banks to make ends meet, according to HungerCount 2006, the latest Canadian Association of Food Banks (CAFB) study.

 

The Upper Room Food Bank Association collects  donations of food from  local companies, grocery

stores,  food industry distributors, conveniene stores, and the general public and distributes it to

needy and  disadvantaged people in our area.

 

Operational 12 month of the years, The Upper Room Food Bank Association serves the

 area surrounding the village of Kingston, NS  supplementing the nutritional needs of some 110

families of whom 41 % on average are children.

 

The Upper Room Food Bank Association is also supplemented by Feed Nova Scotia .

 

Since 1991 the Upper Room Food Bank has been helping to feed those in need  in the surrounding

area of  Kingston, NS .

 

In May 2007, The Upper Room Food Bank Association assisted some 146 families consisting of 229 adults and 133 children. This represents an overall increase of some 14 families from this period last year.

The amount of food distributed during May 2007 was 12,938 lbs, of which more than half (7,765 lbs) was donated from local supporters and sponsors.

 

The remaining portions came from Feed Nova Scotia (5,650 lbs) and local cash purchases (943 lbs) by The Upper Room Food Bank Association .
