Summary of Events for  No. 439 (CAN) Squadron

as recorded in the  439 Squadron Operations Record Book

for

05 April 1944

 R.C.A.F. Funtingten, Essex, England

Weather bad again this morning, so all pilots taken out in closed-in trucks about 6 miles from the station, & had to find their way back. Most of us got back within an hour or so. F/O's Ross & Monson were picked up by two civilian police (Scotland Yard). Apparently there are 2 AC's (1)  masquerading as Officers & causing a lot of trouble. However, they produced their 1250 (2) and were able to proceed.

Lecture in Mess Hall at 1530 hrs. by S/L Evans, who is head of M.I.-9 School. He gave us the situation now in France and also what we will encounter after invasion starts. F/O Clarke moved to Military Hospital at Basingstake. X-Rays have been taken and his neck is broken and paralyzed (pressure) from the waist down. His condition is very grave. F/O Babe Swingler left today on leave. He will likely spend most of it with Andy. Posting of F/O Burgess to Warringten has been cancelled.
