Summary of Events for  No. 439 (CAN) Squadron

as recorded in the  439 Squadron Operations Record Book

for

17 February 1944

 R.A.F. Ayr, Ayrshire, Scotland

This afternoon all pilots were issued with Camp Kits, which we hope to be making use of in the very near future. This evening at approximately 20:45 hours, Typhoon aircraft 213 caught on fire, and was not extinguished until two hours later. The cause has not, as yet, been established. The four cannon were loaded & kept going off for at least 45 mins. The aircraft is a complete write-off, which leaves us with only 5 Typhoons.
