This Day In History

Summary of Events for  No. 439 (CAN) Squadron

as recorded in the  439 Squadron Operations Record Book

for

06 February 1944

 R.A.F. Ayr, Ayrshire, Scotland

Flew a few minutes this morning but was discontinued as weather was very poor. Lecture this afternoon by F/L Crichton on the history and composition of the German Air Force. W/C Davidson, DFC, (1) our Wing Commander, was there, and after the lecture gave us a few examples of how the "Y" service works. F/L Crichton informed us that we should spend more time in the I. Section, (Intelligence Section) which is a very good idea, but as yet, there is very little gen to be had there, but as soon as I. Section gets organized, all our pilots will be spending every available moment there.

We have much to learn, and according to the Winco, we have very little time to do it. He has intimated on several occasions that we will be on Ops in a month, so we will really have to get cracking.

Webmaster Notes: (1) Believed to be Wing Commander Robert Tremayne Pillsbury Davidson, DFC (20465) of Vancouver, BC. A side note .... W/C Davidson's original medals and logbooks are believed to have been stolen. His family have long sought their return.
