Details of Sortie or Flight

F/L Carr led the flight carrying 500 pounders (.025 tail fused) as an armed weather recce over the Bocholt area. They took-off and were forced to climb through cloud over base breaking through at about 3000 feet. Climbing eastward, the cloud became higher, closing to 10/10ths with top about 6000 feet. Flying on time, they estimated they had crossed the Rhine and when it showed no sign of improving, they released their bombs through cloud and returned to base reporting "oranges sour".
