This Day In History

Summary of Events for  No. 439 (CAN) Squadron

as recorded in the  439 Squadron Operations Record Book

for

23 October 1944

 B-78 Holland

Cloud all day with a fairly heavy ground haze. The morning show was cancelled and the Squadron released late in the afternoon so that our efforts to assist the Second British Army were thwarted. Two photographers visited our dispersal and recorded our informal method of selling Canadian War Bonds. F/O J. Roberts returned from leave today and had a string of excuses for not being able to return yesterday. F/O J. Stitts also returned this evening following his recall from the Fighter Leaders course and his union into holy matrimony which naturally resulted in a lot of merciless ribbing on the part of the pilots.
