Clear and cool all day with a high wind. F/O P.N. Bernhart ferried a new Typhie from the United Kingdom today. A signal was received today from 83 group advising that F/O J.H. Stitt's course at Millfield would commence earlier than originally scheduled. Five operations were carried out today in which the weather played a large part. We have been advised that the establishment of  pilots for our Squadron has been increased from 25 to 27.

Dive-Bombing 07:45 08:50
Details of Sortie or Flight

F/L Monson led the Squadron in this dive-bombing attack on the marshalling yards at Geldern. Each aircraft carried 1000 lb. bombs (.025 tail fused). Four direct hits were made on the track, which was the main target, and two near misses, the rest of the bombs fell in the target area. We then made a reconnaissance and found the rails still out at A.1240 and A.3142. The bridge over the railway at A.3042 was out. All aircraft returned safely to base.

Details of Sortie or Flight

This time the target was a railway junction at Elton at E.9264. 500 lb. bombs (11 second delay) were delivered which cut the rails in two places with direct hits. One direct hit was an embankment at E.9166. Two bombs were dropped safe at E.3925, due to mechanical failure. All aircraft returned safely from this mission.

Details of Sortie or Flight

The target on this show was the railway near Holtendorf at A.5257 on which 500 lb. bombs (11 second delay) were carried. Rails were cut with one direct hit at A.5662, the remainder of the bombs dropped were near misses. MET claims - two smokers. All aircraft returned unharmed to base.

W/C Judd, DFC, AFC, led the Squadron of seven aircraft carrying 1000 lb. bombs (.025 tail fused) on marshalling yards at Geldern. The bombing was scattered about the target area with at least four direct hits. MET - claims - three smokers. All aircraft returned safely to base.

Details of Sortie or Flight

F/O Swingler led four aircraft of our Squadron into the air with 500 lb. bombs (11 second delay) on board to carry out a dive-bombing attack on the railway line at Dieren at E.8784. Two direct hits on the rails 100 yards south of junction were observed. Also one direct hit on factory at E.8785 (left burning) were scored.
