Melsbroek, Belgium
The
morning greeted us profusely with rain, cleared up partially around
12:30 hours, but heavy low cloud lingered. A break in the cloud was
found late in the afternoon and the pilots dashed into their Typhies
and whizzed off in record time to Eindhoven. Intermittent scattered
showers entertained the ground personnel left at B.58. The pilots at
Eindhoven gave us the gen on the FW-190 that straffed our new site
this evening. A nice welcome! Two operations were added to our records
and were carried out from Eindhoven.

These
eight aircraft of our Squadron were detailed to carry out a
fighter sweep over the Nijmegen-Arnhiam area. F/L Monson led the
flight as it carried out a rather uneventful patrol. Some
moderate light accurate flak was fired at the Squadron from
position at Map Reference A.0539 and E.9608.

S/L
Fiset, DFC, led a composite flight of eight aircraft into the
air this evening to carry out a fighter sweep in the Nijmegen
area. Four aircraft from 439 and four from 440 Squadron made up
the show. No "Jerry" aircraft were reported and
nothing occurred which rates mention in this report.
