This Day In History

Summary of Events for  No. 439 (CAN) Squadron

as recorded in the  439 Squadron Operations Record Book

for

24 July 1944

 R.C.A.F. Lantheuil

Cloudy weather all morning, but the ground is drying out gradually. The airmen played horseshoes and volleyball during the course of the morning. In the afternoon they challenged the H.Q. team in a duel with horseshoes. L.A.C. Lipp captained our team in this struggle, but H.Q. was a little too good. The airmen also challenged the pilots in a series of volley-ball games at 14:30 hours and trimmed the pants off the flying types.

The sun finally sneaked out late in the afternoon and spread it's most welcome solar beams thus giving Operations a chance to purposefully phone our Squadron. But in the end it proved to be a false alarm and consequently no blows for victory were struck.
