Summary of Events for  No. 439 (CAN) Squadron 

as recorded in the  439 Squadron Operations Record Book

Due to inclement weather today, only one operation was carried out. Eight aircraft participated, led by F/L Dadson and took off at 06:05 hrs towards Manvieu. As the weather was unfavourable the machines were forced to return without making any offensive.

Details of Sortie or Flight

Squadron led by F/L Dadson took off to attack a M.T. concentration reported some Heavies. Weather mad it necessary to abandon the project. No ammunition or bombs were expended. All aircraft returned safely. 

 

Webmaster's Notes:

(1) Although not indicated on the 541 and contrary to the report above, there appears to have been another mission on this date . Reading from F/O Geale W. Hewson's Logbook he flew a ramrod mission near Caen in Typhoon M. He was S/L Noseworthy's No.2 and they carried 2 x 500 pound bombs. The mission lasted 1.15 flying hours . Hewie's comments "A hell of a show - messed up w x 500"

(2)  The 541 Form for the month of June 1944 is extremely illegible, and difficult to read, and may entail a trip to Ottawa to get a better copy out of the Directorate of History. Hopefully theirs will more legible. In the meantime, illegible text is indicated by a series of  question " ? " marks.
