This Day In History

Summary of Events for  No. 439 (CAN) Squadron

as recorded in the  439 Squadron Operations Record Book

for

05 May 1944

 R.A.F. Hurn

Fair weather in the morning, improving in the early afternoon, but intermittent showers which were more intensified. No operations today and very little flying done, as a large portion of the Airfield proceeded on the practice move entailing 103 vehicles and several dispatch riders. F/O Royce Johns was all smiles and chuckled to himself on being granted leave. The 439 Office was transferred from a tent to a 3 ton truck, thus improving working conditions for the bumph boys. F/O's Burgess, Bernhart, and Porritt ferried some old Typhoons to Redhill, where they were supposed to bring back three new ones, but there weren't any there to bring back so, after considerable difficulty, they managed to get a transport to take them to Redhill Station where they caught a train for home.
