This Day In History

Summary of Events for  No. 439 (CAN) Squadron

as recorded in the  439 Squadron Operations Record Book

for

01 May 1944

 R.A.F. Hurn

Lovely weather all day becoming quite windy in the afternoon and decreasing towards the evening. A conference was held in the Airfield C.O.'s office which was attended by most Section Heads and also our Adjutant F/O Harrison to organize a practice pack-up and move on 5th May. The Adjutant and the 439 Clerk Cpl Singerman held their noses consistently to the grindstone on the monthly returns in respect of which they say their prayers regularly in the hope that the returns will decrease and not increase at this stage of the war. All our aircraft were declared unserviceable last night, due to the R/T frequency change on "A" and "B" channels (in 83 Group). A navigational warning was received today stating that certain areas are now prohibited to all Allied aircraft excluding those on operational missions, and those specifically authorized by the Allied Expeditionary Air Force.

Operations were scrubbed for the day, as training was carried out which included a practice of fighter tactics, aerobatics, low-level and cross-countries, also airframe & engine tests.
